Tip to avoid used car scam

classifiedsMy family has been in the new and used car business for over 50 years here in Connecticut, and yet recently I learned about the scam-my routine of curbstoners and how to avoid them when buying a used car.

Selling used cars with the practice of curbstoning is rampant in the classifieds, on craigslist and other sell-by-owner sites. I had never heard the term “curbstoner,” but it’s something you need to be aware of when shopping for used cars from the classifieds or on-line chat rooms, pages, and popular pages featuring for-sale-by-owner cars.

Take a quick listen to my Dealer For The People, Nicer Newer News video to learn how you can avoid being a victim of curbstoners:

There you have it. Sure, not every classified for-sale-by-owner is a scam, but do you homework and make sure you are not a victim of this slimy practice.

Remember too, that Key Hyundai has hundreds of certified pre-owned vehicles that are high-quality and priced right. I’d love to hear what you think; write me at jillcares@keycars.com.

Jill Merriam remembers Grandma Rose

Key Hyundai life's workAs the Dealer For The People at Key Hyundai of Milford and Manchester, I’m a third generation car dealer here in Connecticut. Recently, my Grandma Rose, the matriarch of the Merriam auto business, passed away at the age of 95, just shy of her and Grandpa Sam‘s 75th wedding anniversary.

While remembering Grandma Rose with my family, we all became quickly entrenched in the legacy of her life’s work: how she defined our family, our values, and our business with simple, consistent acts of love and kindness.

Here is my Nicer, Newer News video remembering Grandma Rose by considering her life’s work and what it means to each of us.

Have you ever thought about what your life’s work is? I’d love you to hear all about it at jillcares@keycars.com. Grandma Rose helps me think about this every day, and I’m honored to share a bit of her wisdom with you.

Andre LaPorte, Key Hyundai Used Car Director, knows what he’s talking about.

Car dealerships advertise “certified pre-owned” but what does that really mean and how does it benefit you? Is there a warranty? Is it a better value than new? What is reconditioned? Why is Hyundai certified pre-owned (CPO) better than other cars?

Key Hyundai of Milford and Manchester offers hundreds of high-quality, certified pre-owned vehicles. Here is our used car director and all ’round terrific person Andre LaPorte to explain exactly what that means.

Take a listen to this Nicer, Newer News video to hear him explain exactly what CPO is, why Hyundai CPO is the cream of the crop, and what that means to you the customer.

Andre has been helping customers find automotive solutions all over Connecticut, and I am sure he can help you too. If you missed his earlier video, check it out here.
