Ideas for how to survive in these strange times…

February 12, 2009

I think we all agree that these are really wierd times.  I personally think the 24 hour news cycle does not help with our collective anxiety.  Every last issue is sliced and diced to no end.  I count my blessings everyday that we have a Hyundai franchise and not a domestic manufacturer.  But, that doesn’t mean that my stress level doesn’t go up and down every day.  Someone said to me recently, “you have to get busy living or get busy dying.”  It really struck a cord with me.  We have to get busy trying to solve the problems in our work lives rather than laying down and being at their mercy.

Our service manager at Key Hyundai of Manchester, CT, Chris Then, gave me this sheet of paper and I think it’s great food for thought.  It’s from Stephen Covey’s book, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.”

Incorporate These 7  Habits into Your Life:

Step 1:  Be proactive – learn to take responsibility for your actions and your life.

Step 2:  Begin with the end in mind – People without goals are like a ship without a rudder-drifting aimlessly

Step 3:  Put first things first – Prioritize your goals and aims so  you can focus on what’s important.

Step 4:  Think win/win – After you have put your individual business in order, you will need to focus on building a strong framework for group oriented work.

Step 5:  Seek first to understand, then to be understood – Or, as my mom would say, “God gave you two ears and one mouth for a reason.”

Step 6:  Synergize – accept each others differences and work together to come up with a collaborative effort.

Step 7:  Sharpen the saw – Most importantly, take time to do what you enjoy and take pleasure in what your success has built and recharge your batteries.

From all of us at Key Hyundai of Manchester, CT we hope you have a fulfilling day!
