[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2nyHSQLHec] This weekend my four-year old daughter, Carly, had her very first dance recital. I was really apprehensive about the whole thing after hearing nightmarish stage mom stories and watching Toddlers and Tiaras. I have to say, though, with the exception of a few difficult, frantic moms, the whole thing worked out well.
Carly takes tap and jazz so she performed two dance numbers on the stage. Once I checked my cynicism at the door, I realized that it is actually a great life lesson for these girls. They have to get themselves ready, be on time and not be afraid to go on stage in front of a lot of people. It’s great preparation for the real world. In fact, it’s not too dissimilar to what I have to do each day. I get up, put on work appropriate clothes, go to Key Hyundai and I have to “perform” in front of all our employees and customers in order to be successful. I guess the moral of the story is to look to the positive in every situation and learn from whatever you are doing.
My name is Jill Merriam, I am the mom to two great kids and the owner of Key Hyundai in Manchester, CT and Milford, CT. You can learn more about us at http://keycars.com or http://jillforthepeople.com
