Hyundai May Post Sales Gains Again This Month….

February 26, 2009

Hyundai’s stock went on a tear today in Seoul because of news that US sales could exceed expectations. I read an article about it today on Bloomberg. Prior to being a car dealer, I was a financial analyst so I can’t help but continue to feed my addiction to financial news stories. The Elantra, the Sonata and the Santa Fe are on fire this month driven by way above normal rebates and incentives. At Key Hyundai of Manchester, CT’s Hyundai dealer, we have already exceed our new car sales from February last year. And, we want to make sure that you know that we are staying open this Sunday from 11am to 4pm so that you can take advantage of them. In fact, the rebates don’t expire until this coming Monday. So, if you are in Hartford, Willimantic, Enfield or anywhere in between, be sure to visit www.driveworryfree.com and come on down to Key Hyundai of Manchester, your CT hyundai dealer, for the best values.

Hyundai sales may have been up in January…..

    Jan 08 21,452 units
    Jan 09 24,512 units

…..but I wonder if it had anything to do with December sales?

    Dec 07 46,487 units
    Dec 08 24,512 units

That means sales for the TWO MONTH period were DOWN 28%!

    Just some thoughts…

Sure, there are reasons that the sales numbers were up. We all know that most public companies play with numbers to make them look good. The comparison to last January was weak, they put more into fleet, etc. But, the reality is that they were up some real amount in and certainly not down 30% for January like many manufacturers. And, the trend continues into February. If you look beyond the numbers, the reality is that at the dealerships, we are a lot busier than we were a couple of months ago. Floor traffic is up, the phone calls are up and the internet leads are up. Hyundai gained 0.75% of market share last month. That is not an insignficant amount. The reality is that we are on many more people’s consideration list. And, as is usually the case, the soldiers on the street feel the positive vibe long before the people in big office buildings.
