Sonata Named Recommended Family Sedan by Consumer Reports

December 31, 2008

My husband and I had a babysitter last night so after dinner at the Counter Burger (a great new burger joint in Blue Back Square), we went to Barnes and Noble.  I picked up a copy of Consumer Reports to read and I was pleasantly surprised when I found an article on family sedans.  My husband and I are a big fan of the family sedan.  In fact, we traded out of a van and into a Hyundai Sonata over a year ago.  We find that the Hyundai Sonata offers plenty of trunk space, optimal handling on Connecticut’s ever-changing roads and easy access to our toddlers in the back seat (we are constantly passing back sippy cups and snacks).  We are reassured by the safety features on he Hyundai Sonata.  The only downside to the sedan versus a van is that you are limited to just four people.  So, if one of your kids has a playdate, pick up and drop off can get tricky.

Anyways, back to the Consumer Reports article.  They test drove four family sedans.  Out of the four, they recommended the Hyundai Sonata and the Chevy Malibu.  They rated the Hyundai Sonata high on fuel economy (over 26 mpg for the 4cyl), powertrain refinement, controls, long warranty and value.  The lows were lack of agility and suspension noise.    We always talk about the value that Hyundai offers.  And, that’s never so true as in today’s economy.  Not only do you get class leading features but you get a 5 year 60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and a 10 year 100,000 powertrain warranty.  All this comes at a price thousands below Camry and Accord.
